There's a queue of people waiting to feel confident before they start, and the queue does not move.
We have the sequence backwards, and it's costing people years. The popular version goes: build confidence, then act. Read enough, prep enough, manifest enough, and one day you'll wake up feeling like the kind of person who does the thing - and then you'll do the thing.
Except confidence doesn't work like that. Confidence is not a prerequisite. It's a receipt. You get it after the transaction, as proof the transaction happened.
Where confidence actually comes from
Think about anything you're genuinely confident about now. Driving. Your job. Making your grandmother's recipe. Did the confidence come first? It did not. It came from doing the thing scared, badly, repeatedly, until your nervous system collected enough evidence to relax. Confidence is just accumulated proof.
Which means the scared version of you - the one sweating before the phone call, the one rewriting the first email for an hour - isn't the wrong version of you, showing up by mistake. That's the only version that ever starts anything. Everyone you admire began as that version. The calm came later. It always comes later.
Do it scared
This is why the song is called "Do It Scared" and not "Do It Once You've Journaled About It." Scared is not a stop sign. Scared is the toll you pay at the entrance.
So stop waiting for the feeling. Take the smallest action you've been postponing - today, with shaking hands if necessary. The hands stop shaking around the third repetition. That's not a metaphor. That's just what hands do.
One Forward Thing
A short monthly email. One idea, one song, one small brave action. No 47-email funnel, now or ever. It hasn't started yet. Leave your email and you'll be on it from issue one.
